Strategically Located Temperature Controlled Commercial Warehousing
Since its establishment in 1917, WCS has primarily focused on temperature controlled storage across various system types. This began with our original ammonia and brine systems, which were utilized to cool our multi-level buildings until 2008. We have since transitioned to more contemporary solutions, including freon units for both cooler and freezer applications, as well as an ammonia to CO2 cascade system implemented in our Brooke Road freezer. Additionally, we have operated basic ammonia systems at our Kent Street, Berryville, and Jefferson locations (with Kent and Berryville now sold and Jefferson currently functioning as ambient). We are also preparing to launch our new freezer in 2025. Our maintenance department boasts over 60 years of refrigeration expertise and collaborates with a team of skilled and experienced professionals in the field of commercial refrigeration.
Our cooler services are offered between three buildings at the Loudoun Street complex and could possibly be provided in one of the rooms in our 2019 freezer at Brooke Road facility.

We also offer a custom boutique service we refer to as “chilled” storage ranging from 55°F-65°F, utilizing a portion of the old converted packing house, Cooler 4 offers a unique temperature range for about 250 pallet positions ideal for many flavorings, wines, and chocolates.

Part of the 1917 original structure, with new refrigeration just upgraded in 2023 offers storage for up to 900 pallets of product in the range of 35°F to 40°F
Cooler 2
Originally adapted from the 1920’s structure into a freezer in the late 60’s / early 70’s offers 220 pallet positions capable of functioning at 35°F-40°F.
Room 7
Part of the 1920’s structure, with new refrigeration just upgraded in 2023 offers storage for up to 600 pallets of product in the range of 35°F to 40°F
Freezer 5
Built the mid 1980’s capable of functioning at 35°F-40°F or as a freezer at -10F, 1,800 pallet positions
Fun Fact: WCS’s main complex of 3 multi story red brick buildings, running the ammonia to brine system was once the world’s largest apple storage facility holding over 1.5 million bushels.
