About Us
About Winchester Cold Storage
The Winchester Cold Storage Company was established in 1917 to cater to the expanding apple industry around Virginia. In 1922 and 1929, additional facilities were constructed, increasing our total storage capacity to 1.3 million bushels.
At various points, we were recognized as the largest apple storage facility globally.
Technology
The integration of computer technology has significantly enhanced our inventory tracking capabilities. We are committed to remaining at the forefront of technological advancements, ensuring that both our software and systems are consistently updated.
Our goal is to maintain our position as a leader in Third Party Logistics. By placing a greater emphasis on technology, we aim to broaden the range of value-added services available to our clients.
WCS Advantages
WCS Logistics leverages the benefits of a strategically located Mid Atlantic site and East Coast distribution, offering highly competitive rates for storage and handling, thus providing exceptional value in the marketplace. This advantageous position is primarily attributed to the relatively low cost structure in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, particularly concerning labor expenses. Furthermore, WCS owns its facilities, which helps to minimize overhead costs. The notably low turnover rate among non-union warehouse staff contributes to both cost efficiency and outstanding employee productivity. Since its founding in 1917, WCS has gained extensive knowledge in optimizing operations, minimizing expenses, and refining processes.
